Friday’s MIH Internet year end do was great! Apart from having great booze, tasty snacks and good friends, the discussions happening was very, very intriguing. It was a supergeek event.

PHPlumber was giving us an update into his LYME and Erlang adventure. He says its great, but a bit of a steep learning curve and I guess we won’t see any social networks being produced anytime soon from his side, although I’m sure if I ask in a couple of month’s time, there’d be something running.

The PHPslacker was looking into Scala and Lift for some concurrent goodness. I find Lift quite intriguing as it is a concurrent web framework which “aims to deliver similar benefits to Ruby on Rails“. Except its built with Scala. Like with the PHPlumber, I’m keen to see whats happening on the Slacker’s Macbook the next couple of months as I’m sure that even though no MIH projects would roll out with Scala/Lift anytime soon, he would definitely not let it rest.

I also met a whole bunch of dotNET architects. They’re fantastic guys and it was very cool hooking up with them. Some even gave me some great pointers for niggling issues I have. I just have one question. Why are all of you called “Architects”? There are no developers. Only “Architects”. I find that amusing! Although I’m fairly sure its not a dotNET thing, but rather a MIH thing. Who knows! Point is, I’m looking forward tapping into their resourceful minds in the near future!

(Wishful thinking Elan! Then again, I wouldn’t know…)

Then it just wouldn’t be a good party if I didn’t make Justin nervous by telling him that Afrigator has to be redeveloped in Lua on the Kepler framework. He gets such a nervous little laughter (to my great amusement) when I start going on about crap like that! Don’t worry Just, not anytime soon… Although it does look like a very solid and fast little scripting language! If it is good enough for World of Warcraft and Lighttpd, its good enough for us! ;-)

All in all, it was great fun! Good times was had by all. At least, so it seems. And to all my other great friends (Conrad, Sandra, Rafiq, Kevan, Danele and Delia to name a few) it was great seeing you guys again!
