There are a bunch of new features and improvements in development on Afrigator. I think we should call Afrigator “New improved Afrigator” one of these days. “New Improved” is the stupidest term ever, IMHO. How can something new be improved? Thats dumb. I digress.
We brought back the tag cloud. We took the tag cloud down previously since it produced random crap due to various reasons. We tried to improve on the algorithm and I am happy to say it is “new improved” :P It is still fairly experimental and should improve over the next couple of months. For example, I’m working to make the tags and results country specific and will be released soon. People from Nigeria don’t necessarily have the same interests as people from Egypt.
The other grudge I had was the recent blog posts. This was as useful as a Zombie Facebook Application. The problem was that quite a number of bigger blogs churned out posts that clogged up the most recent posts streams. Not useful at all. So instead what we’ve done was to show only the latest post of a blog. Uhm, that doesn’t sound right. Okay let me try again. What we’re doing is to group each blog’s posts and display no more than one update per blog. Aargh, its just too difficult to explain! Just go check it out and you will understand – Recent African Blog Posts.
Then we’re in the process of translating everything. That was the most ghastly, boring, copy-and-paste job I’ve done in ages! Soon, Afrigator would sport new tongues.
There has been other minor improvements, but these were the most mention worthy. Let us know what you think and what you can suggest! We love hearing from you, as always.
