Shocking SA Blog Survey results
by Stii
While we’re all still nitpicking the validity of the survey, Ms Puterman from Biz Community went and did the homework and talked to Vince Hofmann (who is a qualitative research analyst, mind you) and he is quite happy with the outcome. What do we know about qualitative research analysis anyway?! Read : First SA blog survey results
He did raise some very interesting points:
According to Hofmann, the “most glaringly obvious result from this research is that we are looking at a very small, white, wealthy and educated community, who have the time to actively pursue a hobby which takes up a large portion of their day.
That should be the real shocker! Consider how much bloggers earn compared to the average salary in SA and I’d say we have a big problem… There is not much opportunity for growth in this sector.
Should we not rather ask the question how we are going to bring blogging to the lower income masses, rather than the upper income elite?
Next year there will be a new field on your tax return called Blog URL(s). Don’t dare to lie about your income if you’ve got one or more…
*lol*
Backlink to me using ‘nitpicking’, lol, Stii, I’ll get you back for that ;)
Nothing to declare, earnings-wise here. I’m well into the red on my blog’s cash flow ;)
Just like every other blogging-related piece of content posted in mainstream media, all it really did was take all the numbers we already knew, rehashed them, and displayed them in a different way.
As a survey, great. As insight into the blogging community – abject fail. All it told us was what we already knew.
Still, good idea, and hopefully, it will be done again same time next year. If nothing else, I hope to see some growth.
