That alcohol ad made me drink it!

This is just too precious. Found this article on IOL about the speculation if alcohol advertising could be contributing to alcohol abuse and drunk driving.
Says Adrian Botha, director of ARA:
“There really is a lack of conclusive evidence that alcohol beverage advertisements increase levels of aggregated consumption.”
“The literature demonstrates no cause or link between alcohol beverage advertisements and particular drinking patterns resulting in problems,” said Botha.
He said the purpose of the legislation and its possible reference to reducing drunk driving accidents was not sound.
“They are saying that that advert is going to make you abuse alcohol.”
Now, please just refresh my memory why was cigarette ads and sponsorships banned?
As a smoker myself I’ve never understood how the tobacco industry was so violently banned from advertising when alcohol is freely advertised on tv, print & even in bloody movie cinemas.
Coming from a family of alcoholics it really peeves me off when I hear about drunken driving incidents, not to mention all the domestic violence often caused by alcohol abuse. This should be treated in the same light as the tobacco industry for advertising, in my opinion.
Tobacco may cause cancer, but alcohol causes assholic syndrome.

I’m a smoker and drinker, but cannot understand the logic either. You never hear of domestic violence due to a dude that’s been smoking too much. In fact, you’ll get that when the dude quits maybe.
it is quite difficult to recover from Alcohol Abuse because alcohol is also very addictive just like Cigarettes and drugs.~-~
