1234567890… Friday the 13th. Beware…
by Stii
According to Gizmodo, the REAL end of the world will not happen according to the Mayan doomsday on 2012, but might be this Friday. See, this Friday Unix time will read 1234567890. Not only is that freaky, but it will also be Friday the 13th… or will it?

That would depend on your timezone. On my system, I’m running SAST, or better know as UTC + 2, which means right here with me, 1234567890 will be Valentine’s day. How sweet. So if you are very superstitious and scared, simply change your timezone to SAST, then run the Perl command:
perl -e 'print scalar localtime(1234567890),"\n";'
it would return Sat Feb 14 01:31:30 2009 instead of Fri Feb 13 11:31:30 2009
However, it won’t change the fact that UTC time is solidly Fri Feb 13 11:31:30 2009. The end of the world. If you believe Unix. And are super superstitious.
Good one Stii!
That one is a bit ambiguous though – it’s not 11:31:30 but 23:31:30 or perhaps 11:31:30 PM.
Cheers,
Charl
