Lets face it, every South African is a little pissed off at Ras Dumisani. Let’s just say his reggae rendition of our national anthem didn’t go down as expected.

Why are we REALLY so pissed off? We’re actually pissed off that our Golden Boys lost after an incredible season of rugby. Let me just get this straight: I blamed everything that the Springboks did wrong in that game on Ras Dumisani and Wayne Barnes. Not because it really is his fault that we lost, but I’m not going to blame this incredible team of players for losing.

Yes, we’re all selfish that way, so don’t kid yourselves. If we won, Ras would probably only have made one or two Sunday newspapers and that would have been the end of it. So, no, I’m not fooling myself, he really is a great scapegoat for my frustrations. National Pride? C’mon, who the hell are you kidding? We’re simply not that sensitive.

So by now you should have heard Whackhead prank calling Ras Dumisani. If not, here is the link. I felt so sorry for the poor dude. Whackhead gave him a second chance to redeem himself (at which he fails miserably… again!), but that is besides the point. I honestly think he feels terrible. As he said, he was looking forward to singing the anthem. It was a great honor. He actually talks so fast I cannot remember his exact words, but it came down to he’s as disappointed as we are. I honestly, really feel sorry for the guy. He sounds like such a nice chap. Then again, spliff has that effect…

Ras, don’t worry to much. This has been priceless publicity for you and your music. In fact, I’ve never even known about your existence until now. I’ve always been a bit of a reggae/rasta fan, although probably more so in my wild days. Now and again I’ll listen to the occasional Bob Marley, Peter Tosh or Linton Kwesi Johnson. I may just add a few Ras Dumisani tracks to my reggae collection. It’s not really as bad on the ear as Chris Roper suggests, but thats just my personal opinion.

Ras, from me personally, I forgive you. Don’t sweat it too much. This may very well work in your favour. Peace. For more of Ras’ reggae hits, click here.

BTW, I heard something about an upside down flag…? Damn French!
