They may have the best jobs in South Africa, but you’ll be without your identity and a whole pile of crap richer if you respond to some of the jobs advertised on there!
A friend of mine in the recruitment business notified me of this scam running on there. He has tried in absolute vain to get BestJobs.co.za involved and to stop it, but they simply ignored his requests and they are unreachable by phone.
Here is what happens:
You see a jobs advertised by the scammer.
You apply for the job and an email are sent to the “recruiter” who advertised the job. Only the recruiter is a scammer and not a recruiter at all…
You receive 2 emails back immediately after your email reached theirs. These two emails are auto-responders.
The one is from a company called Mustangs:
Hello Name Surname,
We received a response from you regarding an advertised, vacant position.
We now need your full detailed CV, a copy of your ID document, reference letters, any certificates or documents that may verify your education as well as an introduction letter from yourself.

Aggies Recruiting Service
So what happens is unsuspecting job seekers send them all this sensitive personal information, but never hear from them again. Ever. They now have a copy of your ID, know basically everything about you from your CV and have the perfect setup to run scams with your identity.
If you look closely at the second email, you will see it is sent from a domain called aggies.com. Therefore the name Aggies Recruitment Service. However if you go to aggies.com, you would find that it is just another free email account service. It does make the company Aggies Recruitment Service look legit in a way.
The sad thing is that BestJobs.co.za are not prepared to even respond to warnings about these scammers. They choose to ignore it. So let this be a warning to all job seekers:
BE VERY CAREFUL SENDING ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO COMPANIES YOU HAVE NOT SEEN OR SPOKEN TO AT LEAST!

That’s messed up. With a person’s id and cv you can basically marry someone on another person’s name.
They should really warn people about that
Stii 6:14 pm on February 12, 2009 Permalink |
They should ban the scammers, but to no avail.

Notice how the letter from Aggies Recruitment asks for a “a good copy of your ID”.
Tell me that this isn’t a scam. Shame on http://www.bestjobs.co.za for doing nothing about it.

This is an interesting one and your post inspired me to launch into a veritable thesis about privacy and privacy policies (my link on my name should take you to the post). The more I read about privacy and the nature of privacy in our law the more incredulous I become that companies don’t take privacy policies seriously.

Luckily I searched for Mustangs Recruitment after receiving an e-mail from them and found your warning. Thank you! I traced the domain it is registered to a Dale Donnolly in Cape Town but if you try and call his number it stays engaged, who knows if this identity wasn’t stolen as well.

Thanx for the feedback, Dumbfounded. I’m glad this was of some help.

Thank you very much for your warning. I came across your warning by chance, because I was looking for a telephone number to contact Aggies Recruitment Services and Mustangs. I received both e-mails yesturday and faxed everything they asked for to the given numbers… LUCKY for me not one went through, it kept saying error occured. Thanks again, now I know why.
Dale 5:25 pm on March 26, 2009 Permalink |
Could dumbfounded please inform me as to how he tracked the registration details of the domain to Dale Donnolly. Seems like you are trying to find a scapegoat for http://www.bestjobs.co.za
Give me proof of how you traced Mustang Recruitment to Dale Donnolly.
Could the moderator of this feed please investigate this matter further and remove all references to Dale Donnolly in this feed as Dumbfounded from bestjobs.co.za is trying a fast one.
Thank You
Dale Donnolly

Hi Dale, he checked on whois and the domain mustangs.co.za is registered in your name:
http://whois.co.za/cgi-bin/whois.sh?Domain=mustangs
Dumbfounded, I don’t think it necessarily means that just because the email says “mustangs” it is automatically linked to the domain. If you look closely at the mail you received, you’ll see it was sent from the domain mustangs.com and not mustangs.co.za :/
Dale, I’ll remove it if you so wish.
Dale 10:58 am on March 27, 2009 Permalink |
Hi Stii
Yes > mustangs.co.za is my registered domain. Dumbfounded should really not assume anything > It could land him in trouble.
mustangs.co.za has nothing to do with a recruitment agency.
No need to remove this feed Stii.

Hello all,
Stii asked me to pop online and give you a little advice. Firstly let me say that I have fought this fight with Bestjobs for months, and they simply ignore emails sent to them. The contact details given above by EVL, are probably not real. I have called that number on plenty of occasions, and all I get is a answering machine. I looked up that registered office address and it belongs to a hairdresser.
My advice to JobSeekers is to be a very circumspect when dealing with any agency / company. Make sure that they are legit. If they don’t give you a valid telephone number to call, and they don’t have a decent email address (with their own domain – not a free email address) then think 3 times before sending them your personal information.
As to what you can do if you have already sent these people your personal information. I am afraid there is not much you can do. I had a half hour conversation with the chief inspector of the SA Internet Fraud division of SAPS, and he basically told me that until someone can prove that they have been defrauded by this company, they can’t even investigate it. Once again, they just don’t have the resources.
It is a sad situation, but what can you do.
BTW – EVL suggested jobmail.co.za. I must warn you that I have found the same scam happening there, but thankfully when I reported it to jobmail, they took immediate action and closed down the advertiser’s account. Respect to them.
The problem is all these “Free” job sites open themselves to this kind of abuse. But on the other hand, there are some real (and great) jobs advertised on some of these sites.
A site I recommend is http://www.pnet.co.za. This site has guaranteed us that they carefully screen their advertisers before allowing them to advertise jobs.
I hope that this helps.

I got an employment offer from Quickline shipping, is this also a scam? Does anybody know anything about this company??
Ronelle 4:06 pm on May 7, 2009 Permalink |
I was sooooo lucky. I sent four applications out today to different recruiters, one to Aggie’s,, one to mustang, and two to 2 other “companies” which I’m not sure if they’re also scams, but they responded in exactly the same way, asking me to fax (not mail) my details to and 086 number. I did the same thing as most of you – checked on the net for the company, and fortunately saw the warning before sending any details to any of these scammers. Something should be done about these criminals who do that to people who are already experiencing problems and/or are already in need. Jeez, they just don’t have a conscience!
Llud 3:25 pm on May 8, 2009 Permalink |
The Webmaster for http://www.bestjobs.co.za is Elena Garcia. Her email is employers@bestjobsnetwork.com.
I challenge someone with an interest in private investigation to get this woman’s real contact details. She hides behind that email address and only responds when she wants to. She should take action against these fraudsters.

Hi Cristelle
I have also received a letter of acceptance from Quickline Shipping.
They want me to book a flight to Ghana via their own travel agents? I also notice that the dates and subsequent mail addresses do not correspond to those on their website. Anyone know whether this is legit?

hey guys…oh wow dont know what to say, i was gearing up to send my details and something was just nagging at me to do some research. its real unfortunate, hope something gets done and quickly. um i would like to suggest a few really good and legit sites to job hunt. http://www.careerjunction.com, http://www.careeres24.com and if your looking for something exclusive go to the Mail and Gaurdian site and click on the jobconnection link…i wish you all the best and thanx a mil for this site!!
Cristelle 10:27 am on May 12, 2009 Permalink |
Hi Cailie,
I am afraid that this is a scam…i did some research into this and found that the ship they wanted to place me on was not a passenger sailing vessel but indeed a General cargo ship…they said they will pay all flights, however i need to pay 250 euro’s into their bank account soonest for my visa. I called my travel agent and they also said it sounds dodge, so i didn’t go ahead with it…and i am glad i didn’t coz u need to trust your gut feeling…if they are such a big company, why do they need money from you…anyway, good luck and the decision is still yours…

Hey Tshepi and Kwezi,
Unfortunately, as Lloyd mentioned earlier, there is nothing you can do. So far nothing really has happened to people who faxed their details to these guys that we know of. You should be fine, but one never know. Let us know if an when anything happens. If something does happen, you can open a criminal case, but until such time hang in there…
These guys are the lowest of the low prying on people desperate for work.

Only thing is the ads I replied to were on jobmail.co.za
Please be careful out there!!
Llud 9:12 am on June 9, 2009 Permalink |
Bronwin – Thanks for letting us know that this has spread to jobmail.
Please do us all a favour and email – angelique@jobmail.co.za (or call her on 082 230 5100) and tell her about this so that she can stop these adverts. She is the General Sales Manager of Jobmail.
The more of us who report this crime to the right people the more likely it is that they will stop it. It really is only the administrators of http://www.bestjobs.co.za or http://www.jobmail.co.za who can actually do anything about this.
So all we can do is continue emailing them until they take action.
If you find this on other websites, please let us know.
Thanks Stii for hosting this blog.

This is a warning to all that is registered on Best jobs, please remove your profile their database… i did a while back because i had mailed my cv for a job in the UK and i recieved a response within days saying that my application was successful and i thought how could it be succuessful without an interview being done…. so i called the number listed on the ” Employee contract” and realised that it was all a huge scam…. possibly trying to get young females into the country for prostitution.
so please everyone be carefull and remove your details from Best jobs.
