*WARNING* BestJobs.co.za is a breeding ground for identity thieves
by Stii
They may have the best jobs in South Africa, but you’ll be without your identity and a whole pile of crap richer if you respond to some of the jobs advertised on there!
A friend of mine in the recruitment business notified me of this scam running on there. He has tried in absolute vain to get BestJobs.co.za involved and to stop it, but they simply ignored his requests and they are unreachable by phone.
Here is what happens:
You see a jobs advertised by the scammer.
You apply for the job and an email are sent to the “recruiter” who advertised the job. Only the recruiter is a scammer and not a recruiter at all…
You receive 2 emails back immediately after your email reached theirs. These two emails are auto-responders.
The one is from a company called Mustangs:
Hello Name Surname,
We received a response from you regarding an advertised, vacant position.
We now need your full detailed CV, a copy of your ID document, reference letters, any certificates or documents that may verify your education as well as an introduction letter from yourself.
Please forward this to us at Fax: 0866591800

We look forward to hear from you, as soon as possible.

Aggies Recruiting Service
So what happens is unsuspecting job seekers send them all this sensitive personal information, but never hear from them again. Ever. They now have a copy of your ID, know basically everything about you from your CV and have the perfect setup to run scams with your identity.
If you look closely at the second email, you will see it is sent from a domain called aggies.com. Therefore the name Aggies Recruitment Service. However if you go to aggies.com, you would find that it is just another free email account service. It does make the company Aggies Recruitment Service look legit in a way.
The sad thing is that BestJobs.co.za are not prepared to even respond to warnings about these scammers. They choose to ignore it. So let this be a warning to all job seekers:
Hi, i also checked up on the domains and found this mail, its not only Mustangs and Aggies, i received two more emails from Deacons & Rebels. Well done for catching them out, spread the awareness and we need to be carefull out there.
what am i going to do now, i already faxed copies of my certificates and letters of recommendation to joblink and aggies recruitment service and since then heard nothing from them. please adice.
Do not panick, identity thieves use only identities with good creidts not any how identities. Report your case to a local police if only you have verified the story and find out they are scammers. Be watchful, examine your credit reports for the next 4 months, if nothing happened then keep checking for the next 6 month after that relax and be glad nothing happened.
Do not have anything to do with this company. Its a scam, they offered me a job and then asked me to send my passport to Ghana.
Of course I didn’t send it.

hey guyz the same happen to me today
i applied for a banking post and got the same e-mail, and that made me suspension. i hope nothing will happen bcoz i send a copy of my cv
Same here. Word of warning. Sites like Gumtree, where recruiters can advertise for free without any scrutiny are prone to this sort of scam.
Remember: if it sounds to good to be true – - it probably is.
Just as a matter of interest, never give your details out to ANYONE who supplies you with a yahoo, hotmail or gmail address. What kind of an organisation cannot supply it’s staff with their personal work email address? Secondly, hellooooo, we’re in Africa, between the Nigerian and Ghanian scams, we have quite a few going around even locally…..
Thank goodness i chcecked this out before i replied to any of those mails!
I was a bit curious as to why i recieved so many responses from one email i sent out!
Thanks guys!
Hi All
Same happened to me. I was suspicious when I received 5 E-mails back for one application. All 5 had similar requests regarding FAXING details and documentation to them. They were:
personnel@deacons.com DEACONS DIRECT 0866527563
vacancy@mustangs.com M u s t a n g s 0866591800
[jobnetresponse@gmail.com] Recruitment department 0865611122
hrrecruiting@aggies.com Aggies Recruiting Service 0866591791
hr@rebels.com Rebels Personnel 0866523502
The add was on Bestjobs and I will also notify everybody I know about this.
I will also try all the contacts at Bestjob to do my bit there.
Another Warning: – Two Friends at work recently got job offers from Shell via UK office for work in Nigeria. They even did telephone interviews with them and offered them 4 year contracts with all expenses paid ie. housing, flights, 3 monthly trips to home etc. This was also a scam and the required an upfront payment of 500 Euro to process the application.
Beware!!!
Hi
They’re not just on Best Jobs but also on gumtree it happened to me twice. And then I received an email about a price notification and someone that want to deposit money in my account.
I just sent my CV to 2 posts on Gumtree and guess what!!!! Replies from Deacon Direct…Mustang…The lot!!!!!
I have emailed Gumtree and reported the ad’s.
I’m so scared about what’s going to happen as my CV has everything on it!
What is this world coming to that you can’t even look for a job now days!
It makes me sick!
Hi Guys,
I would like to know if any of you have a means of tracking the source of an e-mail where the company has it,s own domain?I have also applied to an add posted on Bestjobs by “Greatjobs Diary.com”.They have their own website ans are linked to various employment sites through out the world. The director even has a “twitter” posting advertised on the same page when you google Greatjobs Diary.Unfortunately I have forwarded my Cv,ID and passport as well as a fair amount in dollars.I searched long and hard to see if there were any negative reports re the company but could not find anyone making mention of them as you have done with Mustangs.
I have had numerous “skype”,telephone and e-mail correspondence over a period of 6 weeks but have not had any contact for a week now and there are no replies to my e-mails.I am starting to believe that this too may be a scam.
OMG
I just received emails for Mustangs and aggies. I didn’t think of it before because I send My cv to some companies today, just today i got 4 emails looking for the same things (Cv, ID, Certificates, Reference letter).
Something similar happened to me but luckily it was too much effort going through that process or i could have been fooled. So now i know that GUMTREE can be dodgy as well.
Some feedback after my earlier posting of 17 August. I’ve tried to contact Bestjobs on all e-mails available. However, it is like Lloyd said – They are not interested. They don’t respond and they do absolutely nothing to try and stop this on their site. At least the other jobsites where they same happened took some action.
I searched on Bestjobs site for vacancy advertised which came from the exact same source than the false one I applied for. There was more than 80 jobs advertised, covering all sectors (Financial, Engineering, advertising, marketing etc.) Maybe we should get the word out and start to boycott them??
Hi there..
Feedback from my earlier post – Point 62 – I mailed Gumtree and they removed the ad’s from their site. But as it’s a free site these people can just keep putting the adverts onto Gumtree. If you see anything suspicious notify Gumtree immediately.
Don’t send any documentation to jobs that give no company name, company email etc!!!!
Hi Guys I ve been scammed out of USD 3500 and all my personal information nl, CV,Passport no,ID no Etc This also was done through bestjobs.co.za and greatjobsdiary.com.I checked out greatjobsdiary.com domain and realy did some research on them and i could nt pick up anything that put them in a bad light.Everything was done profesionally and I only realised to late it was a scam. They are even on Skype and Twitter so who would have guessed that this is a scam.
Hi Taken
I think we are sitting in the same boat my friend My wife phoned that no today and its just a not available message shes getting
Hi, I also recieved this mail today after i had updated my info on the bestjobs website. It is from the same recruites mention above. I actually tried to send out mail to the address and it bounced back so i decided to look up the agencies on the net and this what i came across.
Hello Renny Can you please send me what you came accross regardint the sites bvdh63@hotmail.com because i have to report this matter to the police now
Hi Ben,
I have reported the matter to IC3 an affiliated web site to the FBI.I found them when googling fraud in the internet,
I BELIEVE THAT BESTJOBS AND GREATJOBS DIARY ARE THE SAME CROWD. Both are based in Scotland with fictitious address’.I would imagine that Bestjobs Australia and the like are also fraudulent.
What we need to do is get a webpage on the same page where Greatjobs and their director,Wilson Pagues (now on twitter) advertise so that others don,t get caught. For the record I lost $10500 (+/- R90 000) a very bitter pill to swallow.
GUYS, MOST OF THE THINGS WE READ HERE ARE LIES, SLANDER AND FALSEHOOD. I would commend this forum for granting an opportunity like this where we could share our experience, but we should not take this privilege for granted if at all we would want the respective authorities to act on our behalf, because we cannot do nothing unless the law enforcers acts on our behalf. For the law enforcers to act, we must be truthful and say things the way they happened not telling half truth.
I watched BESTJOB grow as a contender since 2008. So when i saw this report on here, i was appalled, and decided to investigate the matters and reports i read on here.
My report is not trying to ascertain the legitimacy of a company, that is not the reason for my investigation, but to verify each claims made on here against any legitimately looking organizations, not the ones that uses public email or domain services.
BESTJOB.CO.ZA AND EVERY OTHER BEST JOB SITES ARE INNOCENT OF ALL THE CHARGES LEVELED AGAINST THEM ON HERE. Best job like other companies in their categories have a standard means of crime preventions, and identification. Any company which could provide the information requested by best job is allowed to post jobs on there. Best job is not a company registration or crime investigation company. They provide an avenue for employers to post jobs and applicants to apply for jobs, it is the sole discretion of the applicant to make sure that he/she uses their 6th sense to avoid been duped. There are criminals even in police force, elected government officials and everywhere.
GREATJOBSDIARY.COM, from my inquiries with the company and subjects mentioned on here, i got some answers.
1, Barend J.V.D.H was not duped as he claimed by greatjobsdiary.com, Ben had a personal deal with a staff of the company, and when the deal didn’t work out he decided to cry wolf. Ben was reported having an illegal deal trying to maneuver the system and when he got beaten in his games he became irate. We should not be gullible. Do the things you must do in the legal manner, because anything that sounds too good is not. So why take a loan from a staff instead of directing your concerns to the company Ben?
2, The second result i got was that, another applicant by the name MARK .K.L, for security purposes, is a criminal who on the 11 of June altered the company’s document (REGISTARTION REFUND CERTIFICATE) the company statement said he paid USD560, registration fee, and he altered the refund certificate to make it USD6, 500. The company has reported the issue to their legal experts.
3, When i looked up Great isles appointments ltd, it was a registered company in the UK, but i couldn’t find greatjobsdiary.com, the company claims they are a trademark and subsidiary of great isles appointment ltd, was unable to obtain great isle appointment ltd contact numbers, the ones i obtained was directed to greatjobsdiary.com. Thus I still believe the both companies are one.
4, Greatjobsdiary.com claims they never charged any applicant for services rendered if the applicant applied for an advertised job. Rather the applicant is mandated to follow their company policy. We had 5 undercover agents pose as applicants, and the process we were subjected to was professional, and skillful. We got to the last stage. Earlier, all the undercover agents who applied from outside Australia were subjected to what we read here, the agent who applied from within Australia, wasn’t asked to do such, rather the agent after meeting up with the demands was granted a chance with his assumed employers.
THIS REPORT IS BASED ON THE INFORMATION AND BACKUP DOCUMENTS I OBTAINED FROM THE 2 COMPANIES IN QUESTION. I am not attesting to its trueness. If Barend J.V.D.H, or Mark K.L, are here or anyone else who claims BESTJOB and GREATJOBSDIARY.COM has scammed them, they should contact me at philcornells@yahoo.co.nz. Also BEN, TAKEN, Almost Taken, Haroon, and Marces are free to contact me if they feel like doing so.
I am not an FBI, Interpol or even a local police; I am a concerned online investigator. We investigate online fraud claims, if they are true, our agents will direct high traffic to the site until it crashes.
Hi Taken
I was contacted by Eric Daniel during this week asking what transpired between myself and Frank Otieno He claimed that they never recieved any money from me.So I sent him the bank transfer and moneygram reciept and the conversation on Skype where they said that they have recieved the money and my inhouse requirements have been met.The last mail I recieved today said they are busy with a internal investigation and they will come back to me.You can contact me on bvdh63@hotmail.com to discuss this matter further
Hello Taken thanks for the IC3 info I registerred last night I still need to report to the SAPS and i want to thank Stii for this site !!!!!
Hi Guys,
I just almost got scammed as well, but I came to this site when I was trying to find a place called Deacons Direct, I thought it was strange that they gave me no contact details or emails, and that they requested so much info. Anyway I also noticed that when you go to bestjobs.co.za contacts, it says that they are in the UK and registered in Scottland I mean come on how stupid can they be? I have reported them to crime line, so hopefully they will do something. :)
Hai guys
After opening my mail, i was so happy for such a reply. i went to google to fing out bout this recruitment service..then i saw this….thanks guys, we are looking for jobs and the are making fun of us!!
Also be aware of Rebel Recruitment, they sent the exact same message as Mustang.
Hi Taken
My case against Greatjobsdiary.com has been transferred to the commercial crimes unit in Pretoria .They have a specialised Unit which investigates Internet fraud and they are working in conjunction with interpol and other international agencies.
Hi Ben and Taken,
I was contacted by Great Jobs at the end of august. I spoke to Fran Otieno via Skype on Sept 11 on an “online interview” where he claimed there were employers patched in to the conversation. Whenhe took a line of questioning not relevant ot my experience I became concerned and then he had me on the line claiming that he was waiting on the “employers” to come back with more relevant questions. Anyway, after the interview I recieved and e-mail saying that there was an employer in Melbourne, Aus interested and that i needed to fly there. It also said that GreatJobs would make the necessary arrangements and that I would have to wire $5000 US to them. The alarms went off and I started scouting around the internet for scam sites and came across this site. Thanks to you guys I have saved my money and have not sent any further info to Frank and his team. Thank you!
i also send on the same thing appers who… im not gonna send anything thanks guy for a warning
Thanx for the warning as i almost sent those documents they wanted.
It really sucks because some of us aren’t trust fund babies and need to actually work while we are studying, for example. I’m up to my ass in student loans and need to pay rent. Sigh. No matter how charming, reliable, computer literate, punctual and well spoken you say you are…fuck it, this isnt going to get me a job. Its been great venting tho. thanks
Hi Guys
I realy wonder how many of us actually got caught in this scam?Thanx to Stii.co.za some will not loose their money as we did
THANK GOD FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO POST THESE KIND OF THINGS
I WAS SAVED BY CHCEKING THIS SITE OUT ON TIME!!!!
YOU GUYS JUST SAVED ME!!! IT TRIGGERS ME OUT WHEN THEY GAVE THIS EMAIL…AND THEN I GOOGLED IT AND FOUND YOU GUYS!!!GOD BLEASE EVERYONE HERE!

WHAT KIND OF AGENT WROTE THIS MUCH LONG WHEN I SAID I RESPONDED LATE AFTER THE DATE. PLUS…WHY IS IT ALWAYS MELBOURNE!!!
THE GOLDEN RULE IS DONT BELIEVE ALL YOU HEAR, BELIEVE HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE, AND THINK OF WHAT YOU READ. ONE MANS FORTUNE MIGHT BE ANOTHERS MISFORTUNE. ITS EITHER GREATJOBSDIARY.COM IS SELECTIVE IN THEIR APPROACH, OR THAT THE INFORMATION ON HERE ARE OUTRIGHT LIES. I APPLIED FOR A JOB POSTED BY THE COMPANY ON BESTJOBS INDIA, WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROCESS THAT WAS DESCRIBED ON HERE, GOT ALMOST THE SAME MESSAGES POSTED ON HERE. WAS AFRAID TO MAKE PAYMENTS, BUT AFTER CONSIDERING THEIR PROFESIONAL APPROACH, WHICH I MUST CONFESS WAS NEW TO ME, AND WAS PROFFESIONAL, I DECIDED TO MAKE THE PAYMENTS. I DID, AND THE RESULT IS A WELL PAID JOB.
IT IS EITHER THEY ARE SELECTIVE, OR I WAS FORTUNATE WHICH I DOUBT, OR THE WHOLE STORY ON HERE ARE LIES SINCE THEY NEVER ASKED ME FOR CASH IN THE FIRST PLACE, BUT CONDUCTED AN INTERVIEW, AFTER WHICH I WAS INSTRUCTED TO PAY FOR MY TRAVEL UPFRONT ACCORDING TO THEIR POLICY.
THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF SCAM THROGHOUT MY ENCOUNTER. THEIR APPROACH, CORRSPONDENCE AND SERVICES WERE PERFECT AND PROFESIONAL. BETTER THAN MOST HEAD HUNTERS I HAVE MET BOTH ONLINE AND IN PERSON.
Haroon, does it mean that any company which mentions payment is fraudulent or a scam? How do you conclude that something is a scam? I would anticipate comments from TAKEN and Ben who claimed they were duped. Please respond to me. I DONT KNOW YET IF I SHOULD BE THANKING GOD OR WHAT. FOR ALL THAT I KNOW, GREATJOBSDIARY.COM AND BESTJOB ARE NO SCAM.
Hi
That letter is word for word the same as what I got Unforuneatly I fell for it and sent them USD2424 Im so happy another person did not get caught by their scheme!!
IGNORANCE IS A KILLER, IMAGINE WHEN IGNORANCE IS EQUIPED WITH A SKILFUL TOOL LIKE THE INTERNET OR BLOGGING. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RULE GUIDING WHAT PEOPLE SAY ONLINE AND HOW TO TRACE PEOPLE WHO MAKE COMENTS ONLINE EASILY. BEST JOBS AND GREAT JOBS ARE NO SCAM. YOUR INABILITY TO BE ABLE TO VERIFY THEIR LEGITIMACY DOESNT MAKE THEM FRAUDULENT. IF YOU ARE BEEN SCAMMED I BELIEVE YOU KNOW THE BEST PLACE TO MAKE YOUR REPORTS.
Be careful if anyone by the name of Simon Obafemi contacts you. He is allegedly the HR Officer for the Nigerian Gulf Company. The offer was to good to be true, so I googled in the company name and the word scam. It is a scam. The employment letter seemed very professional, be careful, there are lot’s of evil people out there.
HI Marces
Can you please contact me on bvdh63@hotmail.com
Same happened to me. I applied for a position as an accounts manager and 6 companies replied (see list below). I found this a bit odd, as I sent my CV by e-mail to only one company (applications@national-champs.com). Fortunately my CV does not have my ID number on it.
These are the companies that responded….
1) jobnetresponse@gmail.com
2) directjobresponse@gmail.com
3) hr@rebels.com (Liane)
4) personnel@deacons.com
5) vacancy@mustangs.com
6) hrrecruiting@aggies.com (Lucinda)
All have the same format, asking for CV, photo, references, etc.
Thanks guys for this site. If I hadn’t looked up the relevant companies website, I could have been conned.
Hi Ben & Marces,
They have once again made contact with me and as can be expected are exceptionally appologetic as it would appear that my file went missing!!!!
I am going to see if I can communicate with them a little longer as to try and establish their whereabouts.
Will keep you posted.

I understant and overstand with you guys that when you are hungry for success you don’t mind going abroard for a promised scam post. be careful south africans. I was once the victim of those scams but i just let it go and find jobs at local places like gauteng polokwane, pta unlike going outside SA without a full evidence of what u will be doing there.

GOLDEN RULE- IF YOU NEED TO PAY ANY AMOUNT TO THEM 1ST – ITS A SCAM.
This sound and looks exactly like what marces wrote, did you get his copied?
HAROON, congratulations on your findings, and to all others who are making life better for the online users. My advice to every one is to follow true means of verifications before coming to conclusion. I have over 7 friends who said they applied through same company greatjobsdiary.com as mentioned above and they followed their procedures till the end. They are now happily employed with the assitance of these company.
Having read such testimonials from people i know personaly, have seen and known for a while most of them school mates and work mates, and reading the posts on here gets me confused as i am considering making applications through their company.
I dont believe Haroons report anyway, because his conclusion is not far fetched, but BEn and Taken please do respond to my post and tell me what i should do.
As well as i applaud us for the posts and sharing of information, i would suggest the webmaster find a means of making sure the information posted on here are true and verifiable, after all we hear cases of laid off employers shooting and killing former employers and people lying everyday. who shall i believe on here? my close friends who are employed or the guys on here who might be whiners or real guys
What if you are the mastermind?
I dont think you know what you are doing. If people could be arrested and charged for posting racial comments online, i wonder what people like would face if and when cyber law is in effect. From what you write on there, what indication or proof do you that these guys are scammers? or fraudulent? you contacted someone who posts a job, and the person gave you ann instruction on what to do, you checked it out and it turns out to be a free email or domain, and so what? How many lawyers, proffesionals and government agents use personal and free email services? Vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin had and was doing official business with free email service. Obama had a free email untill he was sworn in, i think you should get a life, because you are killing businesses with your reckless acts.
Killing legitimate business should not a game for you. I have seen most self acclaimed scam bursters online, who just vent their angers on innocent victims. If you cannot device a means to verify every claims here on your blog before posting it, how would you expect bestjob, gumtrees,l and other sites to verufy theirs. From one of the blogs i read, you were notified that bestjob and greatjobsdiary.com are not scam as claimed by your post, yet you took no action, but you expect others to take action? you should lead by example, not just finding faults when you are not better off. Go get a life or blog about the social ill making rounds if you dont know how to get things done.
Rosey
I suggest you make sure of all your facts before posting the crap that you did. If you (as well as George and Concerned) did the effort of going through all the details posted on this blog, you would know what it is all about. There was a lot of people (including myself) that went through a lot of effort in trying to help Bestjobs to reduce / eliminate these fraudulent jobs posted on their site. We know that Aggie’s Mustangs, Deacons, Rebels etc. are scam’s and informed them about it by all means possible – yet they chose to ignore all of us.
This blog merely atempts to warn people of all the possible scams out their. While I personally had no direct experience with GreatJobsDairy.com, their modus operandi follows the known scammers actions to a tee!!! What is interesting is that all three of you attacked Haroon’s posting, which makes me wonder….
George – Nobody said that Greatjobs and Bestjobs are scams! It is said that this is a breeding ground for scammers! Because of Bestjobs lack of action (Where other online jobsites are prepared to take action – And believe me, it is not that difficult ), scammers like to make use of these sites to pull their tricks.
CONCERNED – Yes, maybe it is true that you had friends that did all these upfront payments and found legitimate jobs, but they were either Very Very lucky, or you are pulling these claims out of thin air. As stated in an earlier blog, somebody I know at work received a very similar letter. In this case we knew who the potential employer was and managed to contact them directly in the UK. IT WAS ALL A SCAM!!!
So yes, while I suppose you might have legitimate companies out there who want you to do some upfront payments in order to get a job (Which I really doubt), We can confidently assume that most of them will be scams. For that i would say this blog is well worth the effort that Stii and everybody else has put into it in order to warn jobseekers.
DON’T YOU THINK THAT BEST JOBS MIGHT BE A VICTIM OF CIRCUMSTANCES? I HAVE WITNESSED SOME FRAUDULENT EMPLOYERS, RECRUITERS, AND APPLICANTS ON BOTH CAREER BUILDERS AND OTHER NETWORKS, THAT DOESN’T MAKE THEM A SCAM. BUT THE COMPANY COULD HAVE TAKEN ACTION TO SAVE THEM THEIR IMAGE.
If greatjobsdiary.com were selective in their manner of bussines why did i have pay the flight costs to both interviews in Dubai and Melbourne? When they recieved my money that was sent by bank transfer and moneygram why did the Consulting stop? Why did Eric Daniel the CEO of greatjobsdiary.com tell me that Frank Otieno does not work there anymore? And im sure you still deal with Frank And who says that you are not Greatjobsdiary.com under a false name trying to get people to fall in your trap??
Again i have to thank Stii for this site !
