What is Satire? Satire is the use of humor, exaggeration, irony, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues. The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis is a novel set in London in the 20th century.Clive Staple Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland. He was a son to Florence and Albert Lewis and, a husband to Joy Davidman. With Lewis having such a busy life attending Campbell College, Oxford University, and Malvern College he had no time for children. Through his years he served in the British Army , when returning he found himself teaching literature at Oxford University. C.S. Lewis found his motive in teaching and began publishing novels.One of the novels C.S Lewis published is,The Magician’s Nephew, it tells the story of young friends named Digory and Polly who get caught up in a magic worldwind. While exploring, the young kids find Uncle Andrew hidden away in a house with yellow and gold rings. Polly wanted to leave, there for Uncle Andrew stated ” Would you like a ring, my dear” (Lewis 15). When Polly grabs the yellow ring she is sent off into another world, sending Digory after her with a ring to bring them back to London. When Digory finds Polly they are in a dead world named Charn. They decided to explore before returning, while doing so they disturb the evil queen sending them in a frantic motion for the rings, as soon as they grab ahold of them the evil queen latches on and all three of them return to London. The evil queen continues to terrorize London, by this time Digory, Polly, and Uncle Andrew create a plan to get rid of the queen using the magic rings. As the plan unfolds ” the Witch saw that she was once more in the wood she turned pale and bent down til her face touched the mane of the horse. You could see she felt deadly sick” (Lewis 112). They used the rings to take the now evil witch to another world. When they arrive in this world they meet a lion named Aslan, who startals the evil witch with his presence. They travel around the new world when the witch promises digory that if he was to give his mother this apple to eat she would not be ill anymore, Digory knew better and went to Aslan. Aslan informs Digory that he needed to throw the apple into the river where it will grow into a tree that will protect Narnia from the evil witch. Aslan then gives Digory an apple to give to his mother and returns all of them to London, leaving the witch. stuck in Narnia. When they get home Digory gives his mom the apple, he takes the core and all of them bury the apple core and rings. Years go by, a tree grows out of the core and falls during a storm, with the tree Digory builds a wardrobe to be able to go back to Narnia.
