This paper expects to examine the level of work family adjust among worldwide division bank representatives and investigate how it is influencing the business related exercises of the bank workers.This project explored the way working employees cope with home, work, family demands as well as self-care. It mainly focused on the balance they have been able to achieve in their lives as working employees. This study used qualitative research to examine the challenges these employees face in their working and personal lives, the support they rely on to fulfil their multiple roles, the impact that affected their work related to activities and then the strategies and support they utilize to maintain work family life balance.This study used an interview format with a qualitative method based. In this approach, primarily open-ended questions were used. CHAPTER ONE: INTRODUCTION1.1 INTRODUCTIONThis chapter is comprised of ten sections. The background of the study is presented first. This is followed by problem statement which highlights the issues to be investigated in this study. The third section presents the research questions. The purpose and research objectives of the study are explained in the fourth section. The significance of the study is discussed in the fifth section, followed by the scope of the study in the sixth section and limitation of study in seventh. Last but not least the final section outlines, the organization of thesis.1.2 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDYWorking employees continue to struggle with finding the balance needed to deal and handle the demands of both work life and home life by Backett Milburn, (2008). According to Perrakis and Martinez (2012) by making the topic of work-family balance significant for many employees who are constantly facing these struggles. This paper has made an attempt to find out the work-family balance of the employees.1.3 DEFINITION OF KEY TERM1.3.1 Work-Family Balance. Work-family balance (WFB) or work-life balance (WLB) refers to how individuals manage and negotiate the domains between work and personal life, including issues of holding multiple roles and other work-life matters Bulger, Matthew, and Hoffman (2007).1.3.2 Family Satisfaction. Family satisfaction is an overall assessment of feelings and attitudes about one’s life at a particular point in time ranging from negative to positive. It is one of three major indicators of well-being are family satisfaction, positive affect, and negative affect Diener (1984). 1.3.3 Work Satisfaction. Typically, job satisfaction addresses a person’s general attitude towards his or her job. This includes both positive and negative feelings toward the job and includes the sense of fulfillment and pride felt by people who do their daily task Baughman, DiNardi, and Holtz Eakin (2003).1.3.4 Stress. Stress can come in different ways in an individual’s daily life. Stress is viewed as the body’s reaction, neurologically, and physiologically, to change a new condition Franken (1994).1.4 PROBLEM STATEMENTIn Malaysia, the scenario of OCBC (M) Bank sector is encouraging. Managing OCBC Bank Malaysia employees in terms of face many challenges each day such as caring for a sick child, getting involved with their children’s school lives, helping them with their homework while meeting job demands and making sure of their well-being at all times. Dual career couples also experience the joy and satisfaction of raising children and participating in fulfilling roles in the workplace are the major issues for any OCBC Bank Malaysia organizational. The need to attain adequate balance between work and family life is essential to effectively function in each of these areas. Working employees continue to struggle with finding the balance needed to deal and handle the demands of both work life and home life by Backett Milburn et al (2008). According to Perrakis and Martinez (2012) by making the topic of work- family balance significant for many employees who is constantly facing these struggles. This paper has made an attempt to find out the work-family balance of the employees.A study done by Noor (2012) explains that work-family balance often involves issues with family, working time, welfare, social security, leisure time, and the list goes on. This study explored trends such as migration, aging, and fertility.It focused on work-family balance and its relationship with family situations, personal inconveniences as well as the individual’s well-being. The study referred to the individual’s perception of work-family balance. The impact of the size of the family, life plans, and the structure of the household, system roles was also analysed.1.5 RESEARCH QUESTIONThis study focused on the research questions shown below to provide answers to the stated objective of the study:• What are challenges do working employees encounter when balancing work and family life?• What are types of support who do they perceive to be helpful to them in achieving balance in work and family life?• What are impacts affecting the work-related activities of the employees in balancing work and family life?• What are strategies do they rely on in order to balance work and family life?1.6 RESEARCH OBJECTIVEThis study explored the life of employee balancing their work and home. The primary aim and objective of this study are:• To understand what are challenges do working employees encounter when balancing work and family life.• To examine what are types of support who do they perceive to be helpful to them in achieving balance in work and family life.• To examine what are impacts affecting the work-related activities of the employees in balancing work and family life• To investigate what are strategies they rely on in order to balance work and family life.1.7 SIGNIFICANT OF STUDYSocial work practice might be enhanced by becoming more aware of the challenges working employees face to achieve work-family balance in today’s society. Also, because the psychological state of an employee can impact her children, findings from this study can increase awareness of the effects that behavior can have on one’s children. The study results should also be of interest to other professionals, such as social workers and therapists to understand more in-depth the struggles and difficulties working employees go through while trying to find balance in their lives.1.8 SCOPE OF THE STUDYThis conceptual study helps to know about work-family balance and explain how the work-family balance affecting the balancing of work and family life of the employees. This study has made an attempt to bring out the modern coping strategies followed by the employees and the employers to overcome their balance work and family life.This research was conducted only in Level 11, the main building of OCBC Bank. Where it involves only for employees from Payment Operations Department in the variety of team (Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia, Risk Team, and E-Banking Operation). There were about 70 employees who work there as permanent. That worker who just registered during the investigation was excluded from the study. Surveys were directed the small scale of workers in OCBC Payment Operation in Level 11. To determine the sample size of this study, the guidelines suggested by Creswell (2002) have been utilized.1.9 LIMITATION OF STUDYThere are several limitations that exist in this study which need to be considered for the generalization of the results.First, this study is covered only in OCBC (M) Bank HQ in Payment Operations Department Hub, and therefore the results cannot be expected to explain the overall in Malaysian about the work-family balance. This is the limitation that researcher faced during conducting the study. The researcher can only interview to employees in OCBC Bank HQ and the result might be different if the researcher can cover employees in several states in Malaysia.Second, the limitation of this study is lack of literature review. Most of the literature review was taken based on quantitative research. Only a few of the journals were using the qualitative method. Even though the previous researchers make the study on work-family conflict, however, the outcome of the result was not almost the same as to this research.Third, data used in this study is obtained from the primary source which the survey by interview. Thus, its reliability and accurate is fully dependent entirely on people who answer the questionnaires. Analysis and interpretations were based on the data collected analysis and interpretations were made to find out the result of the study.1.10 ORGANIZATIONAL OF THE STUDYThis thesis is divided into five chapters. After the chapter of introduction, the second chapter contained the literature review which helps to develop the theoretical framework for this thesis. Additionally, chapter two will present a review of previous empirical findings on the work-family balance. The theory that supports the formulation of the theoretical framework is also covered.Furthermore, chapter 3 deals with the research methodology, revealing most of the empirical choices that are made for the thesis. Here, method and sample are discussed as well as the concepts. The concepts are operationalized for the measurement in chapter four. Chapter four continues with the introduction of the main empirical findings, and this represents one of the first attempts to work-family balance.
